Don't forget your relationships!

I have always been a people person. I can do things by myself and be independent but I love being with people. As most people who know me can attest to.... haha. Literally one of my favourite things to do is to connect with people, build relationships and get to know them better. All of my jobs, volunteer positions, sports or hobbies are centered around being with people and loving them. I honestly don't care about what I'm doing, just as long as I have the company. I love bringing smiles to people's faces and making them laugh.

Ok so this post may seem like I'm stating whats obvious and what most already know.  However, many people may know these lessons but many forget to act on it, so Im reinstating them because I think they are important.

I think a lot of the time in today's society, we are so driven with our individual and career goals that we forget that every opportunity we have a chance to reach out, meet new people and show them that we care. I mean when we go to a grocery store, there are people that help us get our deli meat, and cashiers. How many times do you ask them how their day was? rather than only treating them as a means to an end. Trust me I know, there is a clear difference between the customers that show that they care and those that dont. Everyone's lives are of equal priority - so dont forget that!

We are all human, living lives that aren't perfect. The three lessons that I have learned are: 1) make relationships a priority in your life (you can do this in many ways). People you love will hurt you, make mistakes and be human. However, take time out of your day and show them that you care. It may be as easy as asking them how their day is going? Showing interest in their lives and taking time to listen to them shows you care. Also - step out of your comfort zone and introduce yourself to someone new - you never know who you may meet or the amazing friendship you may start.

The second lesson I have learned is that from a quote from Mother Teresa “If you judge people, you have no time to love them.” Humans are all unique but we all have characteristic that unifies us - we are all HUMAN. Accept peoples differences and love them for who they are. If you don't you are at a loss of meeting many amazing people in the world.

The last lesson I learned is a relationship with someone is two ways. Each is a giver to the other and each is receiver in some way. Both must benefit for a successful relationship to occur. If you are always taking from someone, make sure you give back in some way (ie. say thanks) to show that you value them.
