This past weekend, while looking at some photos, I realized there are common activities my sisters and I tend to engage in when we travel anywhere. Usually at the beach, after dipping our feet in the water, we make a mark in the sand and take a picture of it. I have a tendency to write the name of the city I am in followed by the year visited. While studying for the final exam with my fellow classmates, a few of the students legitimately obtained a copy of the previous year’s final exam through a friend. These students didn’t let anyone else have access to the previous exam, or its answers; rather, they kept it for themselves. They thought that by not sharing this special information with other classmates, they would do better on the exam. I get asked this question regularly, as I have connected with beautiful people from around the world. With all of them, we started as strangers; through developing the courage to express our thoughts, we built a connection.

I must develop the courage to speak my truth to everyone – no holds barred. With most people I can freely communicate what’s on my heart; but with a select few, I lack the courage to express how I feel.
With these people, I keep my thoughts and frustrations locked inside. I get worried that if I share how I feel or think, they will not like what I have to say. Sometimes I have been excluded for my views, even though I spoke politely. I have also had others get upset, or change the topic when I speak. Most often, I would respond by keeping quiet, playing down my views, or agreeing with them. Whichever way you look at it, I lacked courage to stand up for what I believed with these people. I have come to realize that I ‘gave up’ on my views because I like to make others happy – more so than myself. I guess I’m a ‘people pleaser.’

This happened recently at a personal development seminar where I was a participant. We were asked to list personal obstacles in our life journeys. Like a reflex, I wrote down ‘COURAGE’ and circled it. Though I didn’t understand why this word mattered to me, I was soon to get inklings.
Participants were asked to discuss the meaning behind what they had written down with others close by. We helped one another; I was shown that my ‘courage’ meant developing the strength to speak my story on a general level.

I love how the coaches – all outstanding singing performers in their own right - (Blake, Adam, Christina, and Cee Lo) hear promising talent and give them a chance to develop into greatness.
Read MoreThis quote has been my mantra as I’ve been navigating the journey of my twenties. I threw off my bowlines, sailed away from the harbour, caught the tradewinds, but got stuck. I stopped my journey for awhile, as I was unsure of the direction to sail my ship. The wind (i.e., the passion) was there; I was just unsure in which direction to steer. Do I choose mainstream (i.e., the common path) or set my own course?
During my pitstop, I reflected on my life journey thus far and where I could go from there. I wanted to manifest my calling of empowering others to persist despite any setbacks they encountered. As I was stuck momentarily, I decided to use my personal journey as a tool to start discussion and implement change. Therefore, I developed my blog as a way to coach others to navigate their personal journeys. I went against the wind and began creating empowering media; I was turning my dream of helping others thrive into a reality.

Individuals today are transient; they are constantly moving for school, for their work, for their families, or just for a change. I have moved various times since leaving high school. I have had many new beginnings and endings with cities, schools, and work. I have embraced each move, though, as I love meeting new people and learning their unique stories. Each of my moves has been an exciting experience and has taught me new lessons. However, moving and changing are by no means easy tasks.
